Who we are

HintGifts is a service that lets you create a private hint gifts page and share it with friends and family. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.

What we collect

  • Account data: your email address (and display name if you provide one) when you sign up. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and avatar from Google.
  • Gift page content: the recipient name, occasion, preferences, gift ideas, images, and notes you choose to add.
  • Reservations: when someone reserves a gift on your page, we store the reservation and any optional name or note they leave. Reservations can be fully anonymous.
  • Uploaded images: if you or a visitor upload an image for a gift, it is stored in our file storage and served via a public link tied to your page.
  • Technical data: basic logs (IP address, browser type) needed to keep the service running and secure.

How we use it

We use your data to run the service: to let you create and manage gift pages, to show your page to people you share the link with, to record reservations, and to keep the service secure. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Website statistics

We do not use any third-party analytics service, cookies for measurement, or visitor fingerprinting, and we do not send anything about signed-out visitors to our servers. We are not completely hands-off in your browser though: when you open one of our public pages, your browser saves a single coarse hint locally — a broad category of where you came from (search engine, social, another website, direct or unknown) and which public page you landed on. It stays on your device, expires after 60 days, and is only sent to us if you later create an account, so we can tell which pages bring people in. It is deleted from your browser as soon as it is used, or if you turn statistics off below. Our hosting provider keeps its own basic traffic counts, and Google Search Console shows how often we appear in search results.

If you create an account, we store two small facts on our own servers so we can tell which of our public pages are useful: a broad category of how you first arrived (search engine, social, another website, direct, or unknown) and, if it was one of our public pages such as this one, which page that was. We also record the first time an account copies its wishlist link — the copy itself, never the link, who you sent it to, or whether they opened it. We never store your email or name alongside these figures, and never your gift page addresses, their contents, your search terms, the full address of the site you came from, or anything about your guests. Everything else we report — sign-ups, wishlists created, payments — is simply counted from the records we already keep to run your account. Only the site owner can see these totals, and they are shown as totals, never per person.

If you would rather not be counted at all, use the button below. It applies to this browser and you can switch it back on at any time.

Who sees your page

Gift pages are private by default. They are accessible only to people who have your unique link or QR code. We do not list pages publicly and search engines are asked not to index them.

Payments

If you upgrade to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe receives the information necessary to process the payment.

Your rights

You can edit or delete your pages at any time from your dashboard. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us. If you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under the GDPR including access, correction, deletion, and portability.

Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Archived or deleted pages are removed from our systems within 30 days.
